France is one of the most preferred countries in the world when it comes to skiing.France boasts of more than 40 ski resorts that are fully equipped and some of these resorts are open throughout the year.

The mountainous geography of France means there are six separate mountain ranges in France where you can go for a skiing holiday. Ski resorts in France can be found in the French Alps, the Jura Mountains, The Vosges Mountains, the mountains of the Massif Central and even on the summits of Corsica.

Atmospheric conditions play a vital role in deciding about which skiing resort to enjoy the holiday in. Of course, one's own choice of selecting the skiing resort to suit the varying skiing season in France is evident since snow conditions in vary in these resorts.

It can be well said that conditions in France are convenient for skiing around January and February. Due to school vacation, it is in February that the ski resorts are crowded in France.

Skiing season in France extends typically between December and March or April taking into consideration the altitudes of the ski resorts you intend to spend a vacation at. Snow stays better in agreement with the altitude of the ski resort.

Downhill skiing is preferred to cross country skiing but it is more exorbitant though prices vary among ski resorts in France. Expenditure covers equipment rental, life passes, accommodation and apres ski activities.

One could incur lesser expenditure towards cross country skiing and France has some attractive cross country skiing scapes.

Cross country skiing in France is more enjoyable in the valleys rather than at higher altitudes.

Favoured places in France for cross country skiing include Les Grande Bornand and La Clusaz near Annecy where there is more than 200km of ski trail. Other good cross country skiing trails can be seen in the Jura range and Metabief.
