How To Find The Best Used Golf Clubs

By Harvey Warner

Since the game of golf began, there's always been a market for used golf clubs. Golf tends to be expensive. Club membership or course fees are known as one of the biggest expenses. Then there are the equipment, and clubs are just a part of them.

There are many reasons why people buy used golf clubs. Needing a club or a set of clubs and not having the money to buy new ones is the first reason. Many people assume this to be the case when they hear that a player has bought pre-owned equipment. This isn't usually true.

Because you're starting out and you may want to buy used clubs since you're not sure if you'll permanently take up the game of golf. It's addictive, so be warned. You may even be buying used clubs for a family member who may play with you. You don't want your prized clubs being used by a beginner so a second hand set would be a good idea. They're also happy you bought them a valuable gift.

Another reason to buy used golf clubs is that maybe you want to try a particular style or brand that would normally be outside your budget. A player may give up the game and sell his clubs or maybe his clubs doesn't suit him. You try it out and yes, you want to own it. So buying pre-owned is not necessarily a question of money.

Making sure the previous owner took care of the golf club properly is important if you're looking to purchase a used golf club. It's up to you to be careful and remember they're trying to get rid of the club by selling it, so when you talk to them they will tell you it's in best condition. You won't be able to return it once you walked away. If you don't know the owner or are suspicious as to why he's selling the clubs, check them very carefully for damage.

You have to see if there are cuts or dents when you check if the club was properly maintained. Unimportant and minor defects like scratches and marks may be shown on the club since it's used to hit a golf ball, but besides that there shouldn't be anything major visible on the club.

Another thing is that it obviously should have never been bent. You should be able to tell that from a close look at the shaft, particularly the area near to the head. Signs that a club has been bent and then straightened again include bumps and malformations of the surface of the head, discoloration or any signs of weakness in the shaft.

If you want to be happy with your purchase, then your best chance would be to buy from a source that's trustworthy. For example, you could buy from a store that offers a guarantee or from somebody you know. You may not be happy with the club after you've tried it, which is why if you buy from eBay or from a stranger you should ask what their return policy is. It's possible you'll be given a short guarantee period.

But even if not, you may decide to go ahead and hope to get a bargain. Part of the fun of golf is finding the best used golf clubs.
