Some Tips On Backpacking

By Arlene Case

If you like traveling or globe-trotting, then one challenging, yet rewarding way you can do this would be through backpacking. Compared to other forms of travel, backpacking is rewarding as previously mentioned, largely because of the potential for adventure and excitement all in one trip.

But of course, before you head for a faraway hiking adventure with your backpack, you must make sure that you bring all the things you need to put in your backpack. Below is a checklist that would help your backpacking adventure a pleasant experience.

The Backpack Itself This is the no-brainer of all no-brainers - no traveler in his or her right mind would head on a backpacking trip with no backpack at all! Choose a comfortable backpack that suits your tastes.

Choosing The Right Towel Make sure that it's quick-dry. You don't want a heavy, damp towel on your backpack, do you?

Walking Shoes There is such a thing as "walking shoes", so be sure you have these with you so you can survive any backpacking journey.

Several Days Worth Of Underwear and Socks These go without saying.

Long Underwear Don't worry - this only applies for specific seasons. You might also wear your long underwear when you stay in hotels that do not have adequate well-heating systems.

Just In Case...A Pillow Case In case you stay at a backpacker hotel, you'll need a pillow case or two with you.

Sleeping Bag See above comments.

Passport For International Travel Don't even think of leaving the country without it.

Using A Spy Wallet So that you could be able to divide up the money that you have just in case.

Day Pack This is a detachable feature on most backpacks.

Using The Right Camera Digital cameras are more effective, albeit heavier load to take along with you.

Writing A Journal For the writer and chronicler in you.

Flip Flops Useful when you take a shower.

A Few Traveler's Checks Because you'll never know when you need them in place of money.

Wet Wipes Always come in handy. Quite convenient too!

Laundry Soap For washing your clothes.

Saving Space In Your Backpack

Rain Coat Don't forget to bring one should you be traveling to tropical countries where there is such a thing as a rainy season.

Bring A Lock With You Safety - 'nuff said.

Some Band Aids It's better to be prepared than not at all.

Bringing A Travel Guide It will never fail you in case you run out of things to do.

Personal hygiene is important wherever you are, so you'll need some shampoo, soap, toothpaste and deodorant.

Clothing Get all your clothes ready before your trip begins. Still, you'll only need to bring half. Too much clothing will weigh down your backpack. Take only what you can carry at ease.
